Fire Permits

All permit applications must be specific to fire review and shall include:  stamped electronic set of plans with sufficient clarity to indicate the location, nature, and extent of work proposed, shown in detail, and specific to the work to be performed.  All submittals shall comply with the provisions of the Bonney Lake Municipal Code, the current International Fire Code, and the standards established by the City of Bonney Lake.

Research Your Property

Use the City of Bonney Lake Public GIS Portal to verify:

  • Whether the property is located within City limits
  • Whether the property contains any critical areas (additional permitting may be required)
  • Whether the property is located within the shoreline jurisdiction (additional permitting may be required)
  • What water and sewer utilities serve the property
Choosing Design Professionals
The City is unable to recommend design professionals to assist with your project. Staff are prohibited from designing your project, water supply system, hydrant placement, or fire protection systems.

We recommend obtaining at least three (3) proposals prior to choosing a design professional. When requesting service from a design professional, we also recommend verifying that they are familiar with Bonney Lake codes, regulations, and permitting requirements.

Fire Alarm Permit
A fire alarm permit is required for some commercial and multifamily projects. 

Application Requirements

All applications must be submitted by a Washington State-licensed Fire Alarm Contractor. The submittal must include:
  • Floor Plan
  • Battery Calculations
  • Device Cut Sheet  

Application Form

Fire Sprinkler Permits
A fire sprinkler permit is required for:
  • All new dwelling units, including all new single-family residences, multi-family residences, and accessory dwelling units
  • Some commercial, industrial, and other projects
  • Some residential remodels (see Bonney Lake Municipal Code Section 15.16.020 for requirements)

Application Requirements

All calculations and cut sheets must be submitted by a Washington State-certified Sprinkler Contractor or Engineer.

Application Form

All new single family residence require a fire sprinkler permit.  See the residential handout for assistance.  Some commercial and all multifamily residence require sprinkler permits, these submittals shall include:  floor plan, calculation and cut sheets. 
Solar Photovoltaic Permits

A solar photovoltaic permit is required for any installation of a solar system.

Application Requirements

  • Required for all applications:
    • Site Plan
    • Roof Plan, including the locations of panels and roof pitches
    • Manufacturer Specification Sheet
  • Additional requirement for residential applications:

Application Form

Underground Fire Line Permit
A separate Underground Fire Line Permit is required for new underground water lines serving on-site:
  • Fire Hydrants
  • Fire Department Connections (FDCs)
  • Fire Riser Rooms
Typically this means a permit will be required for new commercial, multi-family, or industrial projects, and some major remodels. 

This is a separate permit and separate submittal process. This application can be reviewed concurrently with the civil permit process.

Application Requirements

Installation and testing of sprinkler underground shall be completed by a state certified level "U" contractor. Applications must include stamped electronic plans clearly showing:
  • Size of the underground fire line(s)
  • Hydrant location(s) in relation to the underground fire line(s)
  • Fire department connection(s)
  • Post indicating valves for each building
