We hope you will join us for the next Chief For a Day event (TBD) at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission.
Chief For a Day is about celebrating the lives of children who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening or chronic medical condition. The hope is to provide these children with a day of fun they will never forget and to become a part of their precious lives. It will be our mission to help these children, and their families, to forget about their illness if only for one day.
Children will be transported by police motorcade from a destination to be determined to the WSCJTC. In addition to each child having a hand-tailored uniform from their sponsoring agency, each child will be sworn in as “Chief” or “Sheriff” for the day. After the swearing in ceremony, the new Chiefs and Sheriffs will then experience outside presentations made by law enforcement agencies.
This is a FREE (EVERYTHING IS FREE…even the pony rides and face painting) event that is open to the public, so please pass this information on to your friends, family, and coworkers!

If you work or live in the City of Bonney Lake, you are invited to apply for the Bonney Lake Police Department Citizen's Academy!
This is a popular and successful annual event, and citizens who attended attest to a much better understanding of their Police Department and the Criminal Justice System. Plus, it’s a lot of fun!
Academy Mission
The Bonney Lake Police Department is dedicated to enhancing community partnerships by increasing our citizens understanding of the criminal justice system through education.
What is a Citizen's Academy?
The Citizen’s Academy is a free 7-week classroom-based
course that includes hands on learning and mock scenes. Classes meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as field trips on Saturdays. Our goal is to
facilitate a better understanding of the criminal justice system and local
police services through education.
When is the Academy?
Class begins on March 12th, 2024. Class hours are from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. A time commitment of two evenings (Tuesdays & Thursdays) per week for 7 weeks is required. Several Saturday field trips are also scheduled for visits to South Sound 911, the Puyallup Police Training Center, EVOC, and mock scenes.
Are there any requirements?
Applicants must be 18 years of age or a High School Senior, live and/or work in the City of Bonney Lake, have a valid driver’s license, and no criminal record. All applicants are subject to a criminal history and warrant check.
There is no fee to attend and class notebooks will be provided to participants.
Where is Citizen’s Academy held?
Classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays will be held at the Bonney Lake Police Department located at 18421 Veterans Memorial Drive E., Bonney Lake, WA 98391. Saturday's field trips will be held at various locations throughout Pierce County.
What will I learn by attending the Citizen’s Academy?
The curriculum is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the operational dynamics of the Bonney Lake Police Department. Classes include criminal law, police patrol procedures, crime prevention, DUI/traffic enforcement, domestic violence, investigations and more.
Demonstrations by the Metro TRT and K-9, student participation in “mock scenes” and emergency vehicle operations training (EVOC) add to the education and excitement. The course is concluded with a graduation dinner and awards ceremony.

The mission of Coffee with a Cop is to break down the barriers between police officers and the citizens they serve. Coffee with a cop is held in a neutral location that provides the opportunity for real conversations about issues that matter. The atmosphere is casual, where community residents can sit down with officers and ask questions or share what is on their mind.
This is an agenda free, informal conversation about what matters to community residents. No speeches or specific topics.

The Bonney Lake Police will have Marine 20 out
of the water and on display along with various other types of police
vehicles. Grub
Hut will be serving up hot dogs for everyone to
enjoy. Super Jump will be here with a bounce house. Home Depot will be
providing kid craft projects and more.
Come out and take the opportunity to speak one on one with your police
chief and officers, council members, and various City leaders and workers. Round out your visit with McGruff the Crime
Dog.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. Let's send a message to criminals letting them know that we are organized and fighting back.

May 31, 2019 Bonney Lake Police Department joined Sumner Police in Sumner for the
Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics. Nearly 2,000 law enforcement personnel are involved in Washington State LETR efforts and raise over half a million dollars annual for local programs.
