Thank You, Bonney Lake
Posted on 12/30/2021
As my tenure as the mayor of Bonney Lake comes to a close at the end of this year, I have a lot to be grateful for during these past 20 years.

My wife and I moved to Bonney Lake in 1991. We fell in love with the small town feel and knew this would be a great town to raise our future family. I first got involved in the community when my daughter was old enough to participate in youth athletics and then in early 2001 I joined the Bonney Lake Chamber of Commerce as a board member. During this time, I realized the impact that city elected officials have in shaping a community so I decided to run for City Council. My time in office has been rewarding and something I will forever cherish.

First, I would like to thank the community for placing your trust in me these past 20 years –electing me to City Council in 2002 and then Mayor since 2006. I’ve had the honor and privilege getting to meet and build long-lasting relationships with many of you. Whether it was through the city’s boards and commissions, partnerships with community groups, attending public meetings or special events, my children’s school and sports programs, or other ways, the one thing that stood out the most is your selflessness and passion to make Bonney Lake a great place to live.

Second, I would like to thank each councilmember I’ve had the pleasure of serving alongside. We worked closely to make sure policies and funding were in place to carry out the community’s vision. We have a lot of accomplishments over the years to be proud of such as enhancing the city-sponsored events that promote community pride and public involvement, improving the playability and accessibility of parks and trails, building critical infrastructure to support the growing demand, recruiting and retaining businesses of all sizes, and more. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to serve with each and every one of you.

Third, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to city staff. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with some of the top professionals in the government industry. I’ve learned and grown tremendously from your knowledge and expertise. Your hard work and contributions are paramount to the city’s success, it was all of you that make what we do as a city possible. Thank you for being a member of Team Bonney Lake.

Lastly, I would like to thank my family for their constant support. Specifically my two girls, who have grown up under a spotlight with “Dad” being the mayor. I’ve enjoyed having you by my side during this journey.

Although I will no longer be serving in an elected capacity, I look forward to being a member of the Bonney Lake community for years to come. Thank you for all the wonderful memories.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy New Year!

Mayor Neil Johnson, Jr.
