Message from Mayor Neil Johnson on Sumner Grade Fire
Posted on 09/15/2020
The greater Bonney Lake community has been tremendously impacted by the Sumner Grade Fire. While we know fires are a threat in our area, we never imagined we’d see anything like we have this week. My thoughts are with those that lost their homes, and we are grateful for the firefighters that saved countless others.

I would like to thank our community for their continued support and banding together in a time of need. I received numerous calls and offers to help with food, shelter and general needs. Seeing the community accept the challenge issued by the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District and other community partners to help stock the fridge and pantry of those affected by the fire, evacuations, and power outages has been incredible. We are stronger and better together.

During the event, we activated our Emergency Operations Center and I was in constant contact with our staff during that time. I would like to commend our emergency responders and extend a heartfelt thank you to all the agencies and personnel involved in helping us battle this fire. The extent to which neighboring, regional, and state agencies came to our aid in a time of need is nothing short of impressive. We are grateful to all those involved in getting this fire under control and restoring services to our City.

Mayor Neil Johnson
