General Information

The Public Services Department consists of Public Works, Infrastructure Development, Planning & Building Services, and the Permit Center & Administrative Support.

Department Functions

Permit Center & Administrative Support

  • issues building permits in accordance with pertinent codes;
  • provides permit tracking and inspection scheduling for customers;
  • provide customer service to internal and external customers of the permit center.

Public Works 

  • operation and maintenance of all public streets, sidewalks, alleys, bridges, viaducts, highways and rights-of-way, including the placement and operation of signs, signals and lighting fixtures, as well as maintenance and operation of all public parking lots; the cleaning of all streets and alleys including snow removal operations;
  • operation and maintenance of all public water supply, storage and distribution facilities, including water mains, pumping stations, reservoirs, and wells;
  • operation and maintenance of all sanitary sewers, sewer facilities and appurtenances, including sanitary sewers, and pumping stations; the maintenance of all storm sewer facilities and appurtenances, including storm sewers, drains, ditches, culverts and streams and watercourses under jurisdiction of the city;
  • control, management and supervision of the equipment rental fund, including all associated city shops and garages;
  • making of all necessary surveys, maps, drawings and documents and the preparation of contract drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and supervision of construction and inspection for all public works construction;
  • maintenance of the parks system of the City;
  • administration of the community forestry program.

Infrastructure Development

  • oversees the development of environmental, transportation, utility, and other Public Works related capital projects and programs of the City to ensure technical competence and compliance with standards and codes;
  • takes the lead on, and manages, most of the capital improvement projects of the City.

Planning and Building Services

  • operates a Permit Center where developers, home-improvers, and concerned citizens can get permits and information;
  • prepares of the City’s Comprehensive Plan as well as development policies and design standards for the City's physical development and environmental protection;
  • administers adopted building codes, inspections, code enforcement, and other long‑range plans;
  • evaluates and revises the zoning and subdivision ordinances as needed; and
  • works with our local planning and design commissions to plan the appearance and use of land in Bonney Lake.
