Lease Flyer Site Plan
The project is for a 22,656 sq ft Interim Justice Center and Retail Space located at 9002 Main St E.
The building will be used for the Municipal Court, Executive Department (including the Mayor's Office), and additional City staff offices. The City Council Chambers will also be moved to this building until a new City Hall is constructed in the Downtown area.

Project Summary
The City Council authorized a Professional Services Agreement with Group Mackenzie for the design of the Interim Justice Center on March 18, 2008 (Resolution 1809). A Request for Cost Proposals was issued on March 24, 2009 for demolition of the existing 1,400 sqare foot, one-story, city-owned residential unit.
The Interim Justice Center construction contract was advertised for bids with a closing date of August 17, 2009. The contract was awarded to M. J. Takisaki on September 8, 2009.

Ground Breaking Ceremony

A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the building site on October 6, 2009 in place of the regular City Council Workshop. Construction is currently in progress.

July 9, 2010: [Community Development] Staff attended the regular meeting with the Architect and Contractor for the Interim Justice Center project. Continued inspections at Interim Justice Center; inspected retaining wall along the northern side of 90th Street East. [Development Review Engineer] began review of the tenant improvements for the IJC.
June 26, 2010: [Development Review Engineering] Continued inspections at Interim Justice Center (90th Street improvements).
June 12, 2010: [Executive Dept] Met to review remaining IJC equipment and furniture issues. [Information Services Coordinator] Met with Finance Committee regarding IJC phone system. On-going coordination with IJC VoIP vendors and integrators. Coordinating with SEFNCO/Comcast regarding Cable TV requirements for IJC. [Community Development] Several meetings [were] held regarding the Interim Justice Center (furnishings and security) including a meeting with library staff to review the parking lot configuration and consider ways to lessen the impact on library patrons.
June 4, 2010: Several meetings [were held] regarding the Interim Justice Center including the regular meeting with the architect and contractor; a pre-construction meeting regarding the 90th street improvements; and a meeting to review several outstanding building issues. A walk-though of the Interim Justice Center was conducted for the anticipated modular wall system to be utilized for City offices. The [Community Development] Director coordinated with Puget Sound Energy to revise an easement at the Interim Justice Center to facilitate the installation of a transformer on-site.
May 14, 2010: [Public Works] Began analysis of parking lot on 89th Street. [Executive Dept] The City Administrator met with the owner of the 90th and Main St. regarding parking issues and options. We’re exploring adjacent overflow parking lot options for the IJC/Library complex.
[Community Development Report] Progress on the Interim Justice Center project continues to move forward. The staff met with the architect and contractor at the regularly scheduled project meeting. A meeting was also held to select interior finishes for the building and to review office furnishings (work stations and modular wall systems). The 90th Street Improvement plans were received and approved by the City Engineer.
March 26, 2010: Staff met on-site at the Interim Justice Center to resolve an issue related to mainlining temporary power to the site. Right-of-way on 90th improvements associated with the project are tentatively scheduled to begin on April 15th. Duane Tidball has agreed to donate as public ROW the part of 90th Street that he owns from the library to 186th. This donation will allow the City to improve and extend 90th Street to 186th as part of the IJC/Downtown project. March 19, 2010: IJC Construction continues on schedule.
January 29, 2010: PW completed 90th Street right of way dedication paperwork for the additive bid item.
January 22, 2010: Public Works is working on 90th Street right of way dedications for the additive bid item. Steel beams of the core and shell are going up.
October 6, 2009: Groundbreaking Ceremony.
September 8, 2009: Contract awarded to M. J. Takisaki.
August 17, 2009: Deadline for project bids. |
