Bonney Lake Police Department
TRAFFIC EMPHASIS OF THE MONTH
“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”
During the month of August 2018, Officers will be conducting special traffic enforcement emphasis patrols looking for impaired drivers and removing them from our roadways. Impaired driving is a leading factor in Washington driving deaths. In Washington State, impaired driving is defined as:
• driving while under the influence of drugs,
• driving while impaired by alcohol, or
• driving with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 percent or above.
- Every day, almost 29 people in the United States die in alcohol-impaired vehicle crashes—that’s one person every 50 minutes in 2016. Drunk-driving fatalities have fallen by a third in the last three decades; however, drunk-driving crashes claim more than 10,000 lives per year. In 2010, the most recent year for which cost data is available, these deaths and damages contributed to a cost of $44B per year. (NHTSA, Insurance Institute for Highway Safety)
In Pierce County and Bonney Lake we are striving to make a difference to reduce the number of tragically avoidable collisions involving impaired drivers.
Bonney Lake Police Officers for the month of August, 2018 will be conducting extra impaired driving patrols and will impose a no tolerance policy on these violations in an attempt to reduce motor vehicle collisions involving impaired drivers.
